Eastern White Pine Information

The Eastern White Pine, Pinus strobus, is one of the largest conifers in the northeastern United States and can be found in parts of Tennessee's Appalachian Mountains and Cumberland Plateau.  With its blue-green needles, White Pine can reach heights of exceeding 100 feet with a diameter greater then two and a half feet.  The species was once a prized lumber producer for construction, but is now mainly used in decorative furniture and trim.

White Pine, with its distinctive whorled branches, grows best on the course sandy soils at the cooler, higher elevations of the state.

The University of Tennessee's Agricultural Extension Service has produced a guide to the White Pine.  It discusses successful management strategies as well as a brief financial analysis of growing the species on your land.
