Loblolly Pine, Pinus taeda, is the
principal commercial southern pine species with nearly 182 million timberland
acres across the southern United States. It is among the fastest growing
pine species and is predominately utilized in the production of pulp and lumber.
From
deep, poorly drained floodplains to the well-drained rolling and hilly slopes of
the uplands, Loblolly Pine can flourish and grow on a wide variety of sites.
The
University of Tennessee's Agricultural Extension Service has published a guide
filled with information about the species, effective management practices, and a
financial analysis of costs and expected returns.
