Siqun Wang
Associate Professor
Dr. Siqun Wang is an Associate Professor in the Tennessee Forest Products Center. His research interests include manufacture and performance of wood-based composites, natural fiber-reinforced plastic composites, bio nanocomposites, dimensional stability, consolidation, optimization of pressing strategy, wood furnish drying, and wood adhesion. He has worked in the Tennessee Forest Products Center at UT since 1997.
Siqun Wang studied and worked in the Nanjing Forestry University from 1978 to 1995. He earned a B.S. in Wood Science and Technology from the Nanjing Forestry University in 1982. He continued his education by obtaining a M.S. in Wood Science and Technology in 1985. Following the M.S., he joined the faculty. He was competitively offered the position of an assistant lecturer, 2 years later a lecturer, and an Associate Professor in the University in 1993. He entered the doctoral program and received his Ph. D. in Wood Science and Technology in 1991. He spent 1996 in School of Wood Science and Engineering (ENSTIB), at The University of Nancy 1, France, where he was involved in the wood adhesives research.
During his work at the Nanjing Forestry University, Dr. Wang taught a variety of courses including Manufacturing Processes of Particleboard, Manufacturing Processes of Plywood, Quality Control of Wood based Panel, Forest Products, and Wood-based Panels. He also consulted with industry and conducted numerous projects including industrial manufacturing and usage of OSB, fire-proof particleboard and utilization of fast-growing poplar. He held the posts of Deputy Director of the Wood-based Panel Institute (1994-96), Deputy Director of the Wood-based Panel Section (1993-96), and Director of the Wood-based Panel Laboratory (1991-93).
Dr. Wang has authored or co-authored more than 100 technical publications and journal articles. He has received awards from UT Institute of Agriculture, Society of Wood Science & Technology, American Museum of Science and Energy, Nanjing Forestry University, the Educational Department of Jiansu Province, the Society of Wood Science of China and Ministry of Forestry of China. He is a member of Forest Products Society, Society of Wood Science & Technology, American Chemical Society and Society of Plastic Engineers.
