David A. Buehler is Professor of Wildlife Science in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and his Master of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with thesis research on snowshoe hares and cottontail rabbits. He received his doctorate in Wildlife Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with dissertation research on bald eagle ecology on the Chesapeake Bay. He also worked as an environmental planner for the state of Wisconsin.
Dr. Buehler teaches the wildlife section of FWF 417: Principles of Wildlife and Fisheries and WFS 445: Ecology and Management of Wild Birds. Dr. Buehler created two new graduate courses: WFS 515 Avian Ecology and Conservation and WFS 525: Endangered Species Management and Conservation of Biological Diversity. He also leads the PhD level course FWF 601: Teaching Methods in Natural Resources. He is the co-advisor for the Student Chapter of the Wildlife and Fisheries Societies.
Dr. Buehler's research interests are generally focused on avian-habitat
relationships, including developing new management strategies for species
in need of management. He currently is directing research developing spatially
explicit habitat models for neotropical migrant songbirds in the Southern
Appalachians; cerulean warbler ecology and management in the Cumberland
Mountains and the Southern Appalachians; golden-winged warbler population
dynamics in the Cumberland Mountains, and monitoring and modeling avian
population dynamics in native grasslands.
