"Restoring Forest Ecosystem Services Using the Forestry Reclamation Approach"

August 2-4, 2011
Knoxville, TN

Welcome!

ARRI’s Fifth Annual Conference will be held on August 2-4, 2011 in downtown Knoxville, TN.  Join us as we push reclamation to a new level and consider entire ecosystems as a part of the Forestry Reclamation Approach: soils, plant, animal and microbial communities, and water resources. Newcomers to ARRI can learn about the Forestry Reclamation Approach, and how the principles of ecology are used to establish forests on reclaimed mine land.  A program of talks that focus on new challenges and current research has been designed to offer something for both new and the veteran ARRI members.

The event will include field trips to a reforestation project and a mature hardwood forest on mine sites reclaimed over 50 years ago.

For further information about the event, contact Jennifer Franklin (jafranklin@utk.edu) or Dave Buckley (dbuckley@utk.edu) at the University of Tennessee, or Victor Davis (vdavis@osmre.gov) or Becky Hatmaker (bhatmaker@osmre.gov) with the Office of Surface Mining in Knoxville.
