Wildlife Management Techniques

Course Description:
This course is designed to provide the student with practical experience in the theory and application of present day wildlife management techniques. Considerable emphasis is given to habitat management. Field techniques emphasized in this course are those which are most commonly used by resources management agencies today and those which students maybe expected to master as future employees. During some lectures and numerous field trips, field biologists and managers from various state and federal agencies will be present to lend their expertise.

Chuck Swan WMA, Tennessee, to view food plot implication and wildlife viewing opportunities. |

Groton Plantation, South Carolina, to assess quail and longleaf pine savannah management and to also conduct a midnight deer population spotlight count. |

ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge, South Carolina, to view the conservation of old rice fields to vital waterfowl and shorebird habitat. |

Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, South Carolina/Georgia, to view waterfowl habitat, learn about endangered sea turtles and to participate in nekton sampling. |
|
Fort Campbell Military Base, TN/KY, to learn about the importance of native warm season grass management, small mammal management, non-game species management and also land management techniques used on military lands. |
