Prescribed Fire Management

Instructors: William Minser

Credits: 2 hours

Course Objectives:

To gain an understanding of the relationships of fire to wildlife habitats and wildlife populations.

To learn how to plan a prescribed fire management program to meet landowner wildlife management/forestry objectives.

To carry out prescribed burns in field and forest conditions.

Course Overview:

Students will prepare and test for Red Card certification by the US Forest Service, which will allow them to initiate prescribed fires.

Students will assist in implementing controlled fires in a variety of habitat and vegetation types.
